How to care for your teeth when wearing braces in Leicester

Posted on: September 12th, 2014 by freshadmin No Comments

It is really important to have a good diet and good oral hygiene while you are going through an orthodontics treatment as otherwise you can cause holes in your teeth or gum infection.

You will find that lots of food will get trapped around your braces, so cleaning your teeth will take longer and you will need to clean them every time after you eat.

Brushing and flossing will be a little bit harder, but you will soon get used to it. You can use a manual or electric toothbrush and if you want you can buy special toothbrush heads that are specially designed for dental braces.

It is also important to use a fluoride mouthwash to remineralise the enamel of your teeth. Tepe brushes are also a very useful tool to clean around the brackets as shown in the photos below. You can bend them slightly and use them to brush around each bracket, in between, and above and below the bracket. Dr Sepehrara always advise her patients to have small interdental brushes in their bags with them so that they can use them after each meal.

Why is oral hygiene so important when you wear braces?

Posted on: March 25th, 2014 by freshadmin No Comments

Even though keeping good oral hygiene is important at all times it becomes even more of an issue when you are wearing braces. Bracket braces in particular can be difficult to keep clean and your teeth can suffer dramatically as a result if don’t look after them.

Keeping up a high standard of oral hygiene is recommended regardless of what type of braces you have (even Invisalign braces) and this means brushing and flossing throughout the day. Even after snacks you should brush your teeth to ensure that all particles of food have been removed as they can become caught in the tiny spaces of the braces themselves.

Indeed, not looking after your oral hygiene when wearing braces can cause major dental problems including tooth decay, staining and or even prolonging the time that you need to wear braces for. If you repeatedly fail to brush your teeth, floss and look after your braces then your orthodontist may actually have to remove them, wait for your gums to heal or fix a tooth decay problem and then reapply the braces again. Orthodontic work that should take 6 months could be extended to a year or even longer in some cases depending on the severity of the problem.

Please find below some tips on how to brush your teeth with the different types of braces.

Brushing with bracket braces

Brushing your teeth the same way as you would normally and cover the outside of your teeth, insides and chewing surfaces.

Spend extra time brushing your teeth if you have bracket braces to ensure that they are completely clean.

Floss regularly by threading the floss behind the arch wire.

Replace your toothbrush often as brushing the braces can wear it down sooner.

Use an antiseptic rinse after every meal to ensure that your teeth and gums are kept healthy.

Oral hygiene with invisalign

Invisalign and Inman aligners (removable braces) require a different care than the bracket braces.  We recommend you to take off your aligner each time you eat, and rinse and brush it before you put it back on. It will allow the bacteria to be killed and prevent tooth decay and gum disease as well as make sure your appliance remains invisible and doesn’t stain.

Retainer care

Finally if you have moved onto using a retainer and had your braces taken off then you should follow the same process as with the removable braces.

While cleaning your teeth is much easier as you can take a retainer out and you don’t need to worry about damaging the braces or missing trapped food you need to remember to clean your retainer too. Soak it in the solution that you have been recommended to use (don’t use hot water) and brush it as well to remove bacteria and keep your mouth healthy.

We also recommend you to book regular dental hygienist appointments at the while having braces on so that you can get professional teeth cleaning to make sure you have optimal oral hygiene and the straightening process is not delayed.

In just a matter of a few weeks, your teeth will be guided to the perfect position, and the best thing of all is that you won’t feel unease at any phase of the orthodontic treatment.

Straight Teeth Suite is the perfect means to get straightened and aligned teeth within the short time frame specified before, with clear braces that are so discreet you will forget you are wearing them!

That been said; Fastbraces is a supreme method been used in the US for about 20 years with utmost success and is addressed to those that want a complete treatment for straight teeth with only a single wire, rather than the 4 wires used by conventional methods. The entire treatment is complete within 3 to 10 months and in the vast majority (95%) of cases, there is no need for extractions.

Impressively, Fastbraces technology comprises a gentle, yet, very effective, treatment that allows the roots and crowns of the teeth to move, with the help of a patented triangle design. With no more than 5 to 10 visits, your treatment will be completed, due to the system’s leading properties.

However, if time is an issue and you don’t have much before the wedding day, there are some great alternatives for you, which include Invisalign and Lingual Braces. In detail:

Invisalign is a pioneering method to get straight teeth and uses completely customized aligners to meet your personal orthodontic needs. The aligner trays are made of new generation plastic that is almost undetectable, and extremely comfortable. Plus, you save yourself from the metal brackets that other systems use. With no wires and great comfort, you are just a few steps ahead of the heartiest smile ever, without anyone realizing you are on an orthodontic treatment!

Lingual Braces is another innovatory teeth-straightening method that uses no dental braces on the outside of the teeth, like commonly seen. Instead, with Lingual braces you can have a complete treatment with braces placed behind your teeth. That way, you won’t have to worry about how you look with the metal braces on your teeth, and be more relaxed and free to enjoy a perfect smile and straight teeth!
